What about other costs, like driving all that way?
We reckon that it will cost you between £325 - £400 in
petrol and toll roads per car to make the journey. Obviously,
this depends
on what car you take and how heavy your right foot is!! Hotels
can easily be found, for about 65 Euros a night in all the cities
and drinks will range from £2.50 a pint upwards. It really
is up to you how much you spend as a team but I’d allow
for the above costs as a minimum.
How much driving should I expect to be doing?
It depends how fast you drive and how many challenges you
decide to do but straight through times at 70mph are as
follows:
Calais - Dijon is approx 6 - 8 hours
Dijon - Cannes
is approx 6 - 8 hours
Cannes - Barcelona is is approx 6 - 8 hours
Barcelona - La
Manga is approx 5 hours
Yes, it’s a long way but that’s
the point and that is what will help you get sponsorship
for charity
which is the whole point! Don’t be daunted
by the long journey, it flies by when you’re
on the road with that many cars and you can take
the driving in turns,
especially if
there’s four of you!
Where do we start?
The rally starts in Calais. We all meet on the morning of September 25th 2008
and head off from there. You can stay the night in Calais the night before
if you like or just get up early and bundle across the channel, what ever suits
you and your pockets.
Where do we stop?
We’re stopping in four cities this year Dijon, Cannes, Barcelona and
then finishing up at La Manga, Murcia.
What car do I bring?
You can bring any car you like but it will affect your rally points. Basically,
the older the car you bring, the more points you get at the start of the
rally. Exact details of which will be announced once all places are booked
but you get the general idea.
What are the Golf Challenges?
The challenges involve all sorts of things including stopping at driving ranges
in France and Spain to hit a few balls, to getting your photo taken with
the barman at La Manga without him/her knowing. Again, full details will
be released just before the rally.
Do I have to play golf?
No, you don’t have to play golf, you can swap it for selected spa treatments
(subject to availability), or a game of tennis. You must let us know in advance
if you want to do this though.
How many people will there be?
It’s impossible to say at this point but we expect there to be around
250 people in total as some cars will bring more than 2 people. What a convoy!
What do I wear?
Golf stuff is a must and teams who make the most effort will be awarded extra
rally points so get those plus fours out!
However, there is talk of going to a casino in Cannes so
you may want to dress up that night in order to get in. We
will inform you of this further when all the places are booked.
The final night Gala Awards dinner will be a black tie event,
so bring your tucks or cocktail frocks, not your stinky 3
day golf socks!
